Then, on a trip to a Caribbean island, a chance encounter leads Simon into the mysteries of voodoo which escalates his paranormal influence to an unbelievable level. But Simon is fixated on his love of Sudi and his hopes for a normal life. This is a tale so mystifying that it makes the incrediblle almost believable.
Readers Comments on Deep is the Dark
It was fantastic! you captured so many topics -- animal abuse, child abuse, controlling behaviors! The exploitation of the doctor to take a remarkable gift to just be used for greed. The sexual naratives were done tastefully -- it added to the story line without over-powering it. I especially liked Simon using his power to heal the dog.
I like the cover and it drew my attention -- I like the special first letters of each chapter. At first I was a bit offended by the over weight lady -- being a over weight person -- but once I got passed my own insecurity it fit and with reading it became more clear why you used it.
The Book is Fantastic. This book will succeed! It's a very well written novel.

I thought the book was excellent. You did a great job of holding my attention to the end. And, just by knowing that i read it so quickly, should tell you that I enjoyed it. I don't normally read the genre -- whatever genre it actually was! -- but found the story compelling, well thought out, and believable. Overall, I found it to be an excellent first novel.

I have read Deep is the Dark twice and must say it is very moving, very haunting. The story stays with me and I am still thinking through some parts like I once did with films which caused me to think for many days after. (Films like The Seventh Seal and A Place in the Sun and Rosemary's Baby come to mind.) In this book, the trip into the supernatural with your wonderful pictureesque descriptions, especially of Kentucky scenes and characters, is a brilliant piece of writing.
I made notes as I read Deep and looking back over them now, I find I recorded words like "spellbinding", you truly are a master of description and story telling. So many times I asked myself, "Could this really happen? Did it ever happen anywhere?" And that is spooky.
Your sex scenes were erotic and just the right length. Not over done. And the voodoo story was believable and frightening. That stuff has always bothered me. But your story is fun to read and realistic.

Deep is the Dark is a phenomenal book. Although obviously different from your previous writing, it is definitely your best work to date and defines you as a superb author. You have shown an exceptional talent for character development and the ability to capture the attention of your readers from the opening sentence to the dramatic and quite unexpected ending.
I have never read a book that opened as "Deep" does in the first chapter. There was so much said in so few powerful words that I was immediately hooked from that initial page. That was a brilliant idea to start the book in such a dramatic, yet brief, fashion. It immediately pulled me into the depths of the dark that was to come.
The characters were developed and described in such vivid detail that I felt an array of changing emotions for each one as I read further into the book. Initially, I had a sense of pity and sorrow for Puella. Yet, despite her outward repulsiveness, she develops to show a caring heart for the one who was willing to give her everything ... a life. The spoiled, self-centered brat, Hester, showed even as an adult, she was constantly seeking her own agenda at others' expense. The greedy Dr. Gordon learned just how fast everything can potentially be taken away. The enthusiasm of Damon to have the interest of his friend in mind, was admirable. the uncertainty of Sudi's place in life, was a vivid contrast to her beauty and of course Simon's desire to do good as a result of a childhood filled with misfortune and a lack of love was all to familiar.
The book was so smooth in its flow form its first page to its last. The description of the voodoo ceremonies and its participants was brilliant and so precise, I felt like I was a participant right along with the characters of the book.
Perhaps Simon and Damon need to continue their adventues in another volume. Deeper into the Dark....

Deep is the Dark -- WOW. I couldn't put it down, honestly! In fact, I stayed up later than I usually do, reading in bed. I'm usually sleepy after a shor time reading and out goes the light, but you kept me wondering what on earth would happen next! You asked about the cover -- I think it is both intriguing and spooky. What a prospect for a movie. The mental images you create are so vivid -- it's already halfway there!
